Mission
With the Queen of Spades, the director and I aimed to convey the feeling of what it is like to try to sober up. We see locations like Natalie's room, which is pink with fairy lights signifying her naive and girly side, where other locations, such as Vito's apartment, which is dark and cold, signify the temptation to go back to taking drugs. Natalie is in a dark place, and the different world she inhabits significantly influences the color and vibrancy in the film. The parts where she is sober, it's colorful and full of life, and the parts where she is an addict again are monochromic, dull, and soul sucking.
